How much is your medical interview worth?
At some Australian medical schools the interview counts for more than the ATAR. The 2027 entry weightings, and what they mean for when to start.
Your interview can count for more than your ATAR.
- At Western Sydney it is 75% of your final ranking.
- At UQ, UWA and Charles Darwin it is half.
- At Adelaide and Curtin it is 40%.
- At Monash it is one third, the same as your ATAR and the same as your UCAT.
Figures are for undergraduate medicine, 2027 entry, from each university's admissions pages (checked 5 October 2026). Rules change, so check your own university's page before you rely on a number.
What it means
Years of school and months of UCAT, and then one conversation that counts as much as both. The interview deserves the same respect. Most students give it a few weeks. The ones who do well give it a few months of little-and-often practice, out loud, with someone who tells them the truth.
