For parents

how to help your child prepare for a medical school interview

The score got them noticed. The interview gets them in. Medical school interviews test how your child thinks and speaks under pressure, and most students have never practiced one. The best help is real practice in their university’s format, with honest feedback from a person. Here is what that looks like, who teaches it, and what you receive.

FIG. 1The call, the summary, the report. You see all of it.
What the interview counts for

one conversation, worth as much as two years of work.

Where a university publishes it, the interview is a set share of the final ranking. Here is what each one says.

  • 75% Western Sydney
  • 50% UQ, UWA, Charles Darwin
  • 40% Curtin, Adelaide
  • 33% Monash (direct entry: ATAR, UCAT and MMI weighted equally)

Share of the final ranking, where published, for undergraduate entry in 2027. From each university’s admissions pages, checked October 2026. Rules change, so check your university’s official page. See every Australian medical school

  • 50% Edinburgh 50% (Assessment Day) + 50% pre-interview score
  • 50% Newcastle 50% interview, 50% pre-interview score
  • 50% Aberdeen 50% interview, 30% academics, 20% UCAT
  • 50% East Anglia (UEA) 50% interview, 50% UCAT

Share of the final ranking, where published, for undergraduate entry in 2027. From each university’s admissions pages, checked October 2026. Rules change, so check your university’s official page. See every UK medical school

What you receive

you see every session on paper.

  • Before session one: the Welcome Guide, the Interview Guide for your child’s entry route, and our Terms, Privacy and Consent document.
  • After every session: a written lesson summary. What was taught, what went well, what to fix, and the homework.
  • After every mock: an 18-page performance report with scores by station and a ranked action plan.
  • Any time: you can sit in. You know every session time.
FIG. 2Real feedback, weighed honestly.
What good interview prep looks like
  • A person who sat the interview hears every answer
  • Practice in the real format and timing, on camera
  • Honest, specific feedback you can read afterwards
  • Skills that survive a follow-up question
  • A plan that fits the interview date, not a fixed course
What to be careful of
  • Model answers and scripts. Interviewers mark them down
  • Promises of a place. Universities alone decide offers
  • Group classes for a skill that is personal
  • Tools with no human in the loop
  • Big numbers with no explanation of how they are counted

the questions parents ask us.

Honest answers, including the ones that are not a sales pitch.

Does the interview really matter that much?

Yes. Where universities publish it, the interview is between a third and three quarters of the final ranking. At Western Sydney it is 75%. At Monash it counts the same as the ATAR and the UCAT. Years of school, months of UCAT, and then one conversation that counts as much as both.Yes. Where universities publish it, the interview is a big part of the decision, and sometimes all of it. At Nottingham and Leeds, the offer after interview depends on the interview alone, not grades or UCAT. Years of school, months of UCAT, and then one conversation that can decide the offer.

My child is confident. Isn’t that enough?

Interviews mark how a student reasons out loud under pressure, not how confident they seem. Strong students most often lose marks on structure and delivery, and both can be coached.

Who would actually be teaching my child?

A current medical student who sat this exact interview and got in. One-on-one, never a group class. Every coach is trained to teach the m.i ready way, works under a contractor agreement with confidentiality and child-safety terms, and we will tell you who the coach is before session one.

How will I know it is working?

A written summary after every session and a scored report after every mock. You see what was taught, how your child did, and what comes next. You are welcome to sit in on any session.

Why not a free AI tool?

A person marks the real interview. AI tools can be handy for drilling, but students need a person who tells them honestly how they come across. We keep the human side of this, on purpose.

Is it too early, or too late?

Invitations can arrive with only days of notice, and skills take weeks to build. The right time is before the invitation. If the interview is already close, we run short intensive plans too.

Do you promise a place?

No. Nobody can. Universities decide. We say so openly, and that honesty is part of how we work. What we can show you is this: 100% of our students who have received their result have been offered a place in medicine.*

Is it safe?

Sessions are online, parents know every session time and may sit in, and there is no private social-media contact between coaches and students. Under-18s need a parent or guardian to agree to our terms before session one. Sessions are not video recorded; with permission a written transcript may be used to write the lesson summary.
